Surf Camps in Portugal

Everybody wants to stand up and ride a wave.

Portugal has never been so popular as a surf destiny as it is now. For the last 15 years the world has recognized Portugal as world class surf destiny.

The number on sunny days in a year, the good food, the friendly welcome of local people, the pretty consistent surf conditions all year round, the social/political and economic environment are more than good excuses to choose Portugal as the first surf destination.

Just a few minutes from the capital – Lisbon, you will find plenty of options, either on the south coast, Almada area and Cascais area, or west coast where you will find Ericeira, as the world surf reserve Ericeira, Reserva de Surf | www.visitportugal.com, and Sintra with all his wilderness and authenticity within the magnificent Natural Park Reserve of Sintra – Cascais.

Depending on what drives you when looking for a place to stay, these 3 areas offers you great experiencies.

At Costa da Caparica – Almada area, 15 minutes away from Lisbon, you will find more crowded urban surf spots, yet, it is a good option in case you want to go every day to the city center.

At Cascais – Estoril bay, you can combine good surfing conditions (at Praia do Guincho or Carcavelos) and nightlife, with good restaurants.

Just around the corner on the other side of the hill, you will find Sintra.

Located geographically on the west coast of Potugal, Sintra and Ericeira, will offer you the most authentic experiences, located in the heart of quietness and nature.

In Ericeira you will find most of the surf camps within the Lisbon area, with a big surf community and lots of surf shops. However, some may say that the village has lost its magic due to overtourism.

Surfers that are looking for good waves and empty lineups, will choose Sintra as a destination, where The Peak Surf House (The Peak Surf House) is located.

Being one the most consistent areas for waves in Portugal, here you will find the perfect balance between surfing your first wave as well getting some good barrels for those more advanced surfers.

Only a 25 minutes drive from Lisbon you have the change to try traditional Portuguese authentic food in Lisbon and scroll around the old town listening to Fado (traditional music of Portugal).

How long should I stay?

If you guys want to have a full experience on a surf House, I would recommend to stay at least a full week so you can embrace what Portugal (especially Sintra) has to offer.

Within these surf camps/ surf houses, you will find time to disconnect from your daily routine back home.

How is a day in the House?

(1)    Starting the day with some stretch during a yoga session.

(2)    After breakfast, step into the water and try your first takeoff in a board.

(3)    Have a healthy meal on any cozy restaurant with view to the ocean.

(4)    Chill in the house at the pool or take a nap on the hammock

(5)    Hang out in the house on our pizza night

(6)    Share good stories with all the other guests around the fire pit

(7)    Rest, Sleep, Repeat
